Musician Mental Health Initiative

A Partnership Between Community Gains & Be The Change Collective
In the fall of 2025, a local Chattanooga musician approached our team with an idea: to start a conversation about mental health awareness and support specifically for musicians. Through their own research, they discovered that there were few, if any, mental health resources designed specifically with musicians in mind. Knowing that Sydney and Brayden are musicians themselves and have openly shared her own experiences with mental health, as well as our history of partnering with local mental health organizations through our programming, they reached out to ask if we might have ideas for how to address this gap. That conversation led us to connect them with Regina Gee, an integrative depression coach and co-founder of Community Gains. With Regina’s expertise, combined with feedback from a small group of local musicians who shared their experiences and perspectives on the unique challenges impacting musicians’ mental health, the Musician Mental Health Initiative was born.

The Musician Mental Health Initiative is an 11-week cohort designed to equip musicians with tools, resources, and support to strengthen their relationship with themselves, build meaningful connections within their community, and foster a greater sense of belonging as they continue performing and pursuing careers in music.

At the conclusion of the cohort, participating musicians take the stage for what we’re calling The Encore Sessions: a free, public singer-songwriter showcase celebrating the musicians of the Musician Mental Health Initiative and the work they’ve done throughout the program. The series is an opportunity to bring the community together, celebrate local musicians, and continue the conversation around the mental health and wellbeing of those who make music in our community.

Our next Encore Sessions concert will take place on October 15 on the rooftop of CARTA’s Shuttle Park North, just off W. 3rd Street in downtown Chattanooga. If you are a musician, or know of a musician, who might benefit from being a part of this initiative, we'll have more details about the next cohort soon.
